Kateryna Lypa  “Enamels and Time”

Ukrainian, vol.I, 2005, p. 54-57

The colour effects of enamels and certain unpredictability of the result in the process of creating them helps Boroday to make artistic statements about the non-stop-pable flow of time. Among the enamel works of the artist there are many enamel-decorated "clocks" and "calendars" which do not show actual time but give the mood of the seasons or of the time of the day. The Vechirny chas clock (Evening Time) is decorated in such a way that even without looking at the time the clock shows, it becomes clear that it is eventide that the clock represents thanks to the dusky colours of the enamel. One of the artist's calendars in the shape of a pyramid indicates a whole season. The pyramid's greenish-blue colours are indicative of spring, no matter what the actual season is that the owner of the pyramid may see through the window. The series of enamels (Seasons of the Year; Autumnal Still-life: Crepuscule Impressions) help generate moods and feelings which are independent of the actual flow of time.
